Installing to a shared network drive
Hi,

Is is possible to install Autograph to a shared network drive rather than on each individual PC? We have 800 PC\'s and run HDGuard which doesn\'t make it very easy to use RIS.

Thanks, Paul.

Re: Installing to a shared network drive
Hi,

I\'m sorry but we do not really support running Autograph across a network (Except with Terminal Server).

This is becuase it is not a simple matter to achieve.

The problem is 2 fold

1) Registration Issues. Autograph requires certain registry entries and Windows will always look for these in the local registry (or user hive in a roaming profile). Unfortuantely the registry entries in question are found in the Local Machine Hive. Without these Autograph will be unable to use its Active X Controls, and the keyboard. The result of which is likely to be that Autograph will crash on entry.  Even if it runs it will still report that it is unlicensed becuase it will be unable to locate the licensing information. Windows Maintains Installation Information in the local Machine Hive.

2) 3rd party products: We use DirectX9, SHockwave 10(+ supporting files) and Flash 7. I am unsure whether these can be run remotely. If they can then I cannot provide support for this, you would need to request suipport fromMicrosoft and Adobe respectively.

Hope this explains things a little

Re: Installing to a shared network drive
Hi,

I should probably add that the recommended method of performing a network installation is through the Active Directory using Group Policy. Instructions for doing this are available on the installation CD under Browse\\Installation\\Autograph-Network-Installation.doc.

Hope this helps
