If i generate any 2d shape, is there a way of calcutating area of the enclosed shape? I have been entering equations of sides to find areas via rectangle method. Year 8 teachers here would like to do this on autograph without using an equation based area approach. Is this possible?
Thank you for your time

Hi all,

It would be great to have access to the Autograph Keyboard at any point by a keyboard command. For example, if the Edit Axis window is open and one is changing labels, say to theta along the horizontal axis, if the keyboard is not up one does not have access to any of the symbols. Of course if the keyboard is up already then there is no problems. BUT, as I said being able to prompt the keyboard at any time would be convenient.

Thanks,
It is taking too much time, so this is a sort of lazy option for me If anyone can assist me, would be much appreciated!
Given that I start with the graphs of two parabola, one concave, the other convex, that 'overlap' between their points of intersection. How can I dynamically plot this varying length graphically, showing students that this length is itself represented by a quadratic equation, and therefore they can calculate the line's maximum length? It would be nice to do the same for other graph configurations for calculating minimum lengths too!
Hope someone can help!
Textbox is great and makes intelligent choice. For example click on graph and the default text is the current equation.

e.g. Equation 1: {{y =√(2x − 5)}}

Is there documented the full range of "variables" (the part in the double curled brackets) that can be entered in the textbox?

For example, in addition to the graph equation I want to show the maximum and minimum values for x if I am showing the effect on the range of restricting the domain to (say) -2 < x < 3.
Thanks

Results box updating

Hello,

I don't know if the following is intended behaviour of the results box. There is an easy work around.

I plot a 2d graph, say y = x^2. Then I select the graph, right-click and select "Find Area" in the pop out box. I then select one of the 4 methods, say "rectangle -".

The value for the approximate area displays in the status line. If I choose to display the Results Box it slides from the right and shows the same area value. If I now double left-click the area approximation it turns black and the area calculation options dialog re-opens. I select a new area approx method, say trapezium rule, and select OK. The area value in the status bar refreshes but the Results Box does not add the new area value.

I can get round this in two ways.

1) Delete the area approximation and recreate it. This will put a new entry in the results box. This is a bit clumsy because you lose the dynamic nature of showing that change in method from rectangle to trapezium changes the approximation of the area value in the RB.

2) A better solution is to click the area approximation strips and create a text box for that which will be automatically populated with whatever is the current value of the area. This is vivid and achieves the demonstration of the change of area resulting from change of area approximation method.

Do you think the Results Box should add a new entry when the area approx technique is changed or is it difficult to detect this change and post a new value?
Before contacting our support team about an issue you have with the installation or running of Autograph, (either through this forum or via phone/email), you need to ensure that you have and provide as much pertinent information as possible in the initial request.
Pertinent information typically including the following (in no particular order)

In this post I shall address some very common questions/solutions which have been raised regarding version 3.3.

-------------------------------------------------------------------
Important Notice

It is very important that you are using our latest installer (3.3.10) before proceeding. If you are using the original 3.3 release then there are several potential difficult to resolve problems which are fully resolved in the latter release. this can be downloaded from here .

Also this information relates to the Windows version of our software. A Separate Post will be provided for Apple MAC support.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

1) Is Autograph Compatible with RM CC3/CC4 Networks

Yes, Autograph works fine under these environments and the procedure is identical in both. To install it

1) download our network installation guide
2) follow the steps for creating an administrative image on the server
3) Ignore the second part of the Network Installation Guide, instead: Add the MSI created by the administrative installation (not the original downloaded MSI) as an Existing Windows installer package in Application Wizard
4) If the shortcuts are not extracted correctly during this process then you may need to perform a standard single machine installation of the vanilla MSI and then copy the shortcuts from the All Users area, as per RM recommendations
4) Deploy out to a test station
5) Follow Stage 3 of the Network Installation Guide to activate your server licence for Autograph.
6) Follow your standard steps for deploying/testing Autograph to the required clients on your network.

2) How can we successfully add Autograph to an image?

If you have a 3.3.10 licence you will have been provided with a Single Computer at Institution (Not on Network) Serial Number. If not then you should contact your dealer to provide you with one this upgrade from 3.3->3.3.10 is free of charge and only necessary in this instance.

Once you have such a serial number you can then use your standard imaging technique to create/add Autograph to an image. If you activate the captured installation using the Single Computer... workflow. This will pre-activate the image and you can then successfully deploy this out to your stations.

3) During activation I am told it cannot connect to the server and I should check my internet connection, but my connection is fine. What can I do?

There are several things which can cause this particular problem, commonly the presence of a proxy server, firewall e.t.c. which is blocking the attempt to connect on port 80.

As a first point of call, when using a proxy server check the proxy settings configurable on the 'Activate Now' green dialogue box.

If this doesn't solve the problem, or you don't use a proxy then please ensure that you grant Autograph an exception in your firewall or disable it temporarily (the former is definitely the recommended option).

thirdly if you are not performing a student/teacher at home installation then you can use the activate via email option.

If performing a student/teacher at home installation however then please contact our support team at support@autograph-maths.com

4) I have been told I need to use the Autograph Installer Customiser to Licence my copy of Autograph yet I cannot find it?

Your information/guide refers to a previous version of Autograph. Autograph 3.3 no longer uses the customiser, instead a process of integrated software activation is provided for licensing.

5) I have performed the network installation according to your guide, but when I run Autograph I get a message telling me it cannot open the licence file?

This means that one or more steps during the administrative installation have not gone to plan, this can be easily fixed however

1) open Regedit and browse to HKLM\Software\Eastmond Publishing Ltd.\Version 3.3\LicenceLocation
2) Ensure this is pointing to the UNC path (\\Server\ShareName) to the share where your licence file resides on the server. If wrong then see below for advice on fixing this network wide
3) Now Browse to where you requested the licence be on the server. Ensure that
a) this has read/write permissions for all users of Autograph (Everyone, or Authenticated Users group). Ensure this is true both for the Share and the Underlying Folder on the server. These are different things but can both be accessed through the properties window for the folder.
b) ensure it holds a copy of the licence file 'Autograph3.3.10.lic'. If missing this can be found in the root of your downloaded network package/CD.

Now try running Autograph on the machine and see if it can now access the licence file. At this point Autograph should hopefully be working. If not then please contact support@autograph-maths.com for further assistance

If this has been fixed then you will need to deploy the change out to the rest of your clients.

Under Server 2008: this is most easily done (providing you are running an active directory based domain) by using a GPO object to send out a fragment to the required machines. See here for instructions on doing this

Under Server 2003: Export the changes on the client (above) to a regfile. Then configure a script on a GPO object to apply this to the machine... See here for instructions on doing this.

I receive a message saying The Registration Entry already Exists when trying to 'activate via web'

This is usually caused by the network serial number being used for single machine installations, this will not work as the serial number can only be used on up to 5 hardware. For Single Computer installations, the Single Computer at Institution (Not on Network) Serial Number should be used.

If you have accidentally done this you can contact our support department who can reset this for you at our discretion.

We have Autograph 3.20 installed via Microsoft App-V which has been working fine, a member of staff has tried to run some Extra simulations by going File>>New Extras Page and then for example confidence intervals.

We then just get a screen saying Adobe Shockwave is installing, it just hangs on this screen and the progress bar never moves. I have installed the latest version of Shockwave on a machine and tested and it does the same thing.

Any ideas?
I am trying to show the size of an angle between two line segments. However, once I select the two lines (or 3 points) I do not get the option "Angles". I only get "Angle between lines" and the angles shows up in a dialog box. Is this because I have an older version of Auto graph?

Also, whenever I measure an angle, it seems to give me the angle from a certain bearing, and not just the angle I want. If there a place to format angles?

Thanks

Again kudos to Autograph and I always look forward to upgrades.
Is there a reason why implicitly defined equations, which can be graphed, cannot show a tangent line at a point placed on the graph?

In teaching Calculus it's wonderful to have students see the graphs of implicitly defined equations when one of the variables cannot be isolated but I would love to see the ability of tangent lines to be added to these graphs.
